Serving Our Communities Since 1961
Recognizing the need for sewer service, Douglass Township in Montgomery County and Colebrookdale Township in Berks County began planning for construction of a wastewater collection and treatment facility as early as 1957. On November 3, 1961, Berks-Montgomery Municipal Authority was incorporated.
The original sewer system, completed in 1964, consisted of two sewage treatment plants (Morysville and West Swamp Creek), two separate collection systems, and one pumping station.
Over the years, our system has been expanded and upgraded in response to community growth. Major milestones include acquiring the Borough of Bechtelsville collection system in 1988, constructing a pumping station and collection lines to service the Sassamansville community in 2007, and adding seven additional pumping stations with numerous collection lines for new developments.
